Bike It and cycling in schools
Travel Shropshire wants to make it easier for children to cycle, both to school and in general.
We're doing this by:
- Building more cycle routes to schools and other places you want to go to.
- Building more places to cross the road near schools and other places you want to go to.
- Putting in more places for you to park your bike at school. So you don't have to worry about it getting wet or stolen.
- Teaching lots more kids to cycle, so you have better skills.
- Running cycling events and activities at school.
- Giving your parents lots of advice so they feel happier for you to ride your bike.
What would make it easier for you to cycle to school?
Email us at transport@shropshire.gov.uk to tell us what you want.
Bike It
Travel Shropshire funds Bike It, a Sustrans project, in Shrewsbury and Oswestry. The Shrewsbury Bike It officer, Kim Williams, has been working with schools since 2008. The Oswestry Bike It Officer, Jo Morison, started in April 2012.
Bike It officers work with schools, mostly during school hours, to organise loads of great, fun cycling activities and events, including bike checks and skills sessions. They are available to give assemblies and talk to parents and governors about the benefits of cycling.
